God’s Unspeakable Gift
“Thanks be unto God His unspeakable gift.” 2nd Corinthians 9:15 (KJV)
This verse begins with Thanksgiving by saying. “Thanks be unto God” but it ends with Christmas by saying “God unspeakable gift.” This tells us that Thanksgiving and Christmas go together. This is not just thanking God for a gift; but it’s thanking Him for THE Gift of His Son Jesus Christ. This is the gift of all eternity.
The Greek word for “unspeakable” can be translated as meaning “unutterable.” It simply means that words cannot describe God’s Gift to mankind, His Unspeakable Gift of Jesus Christ. This verse is clearly saying that the extraordinary gift of Jesus is like none other.
It unspeakable, because the Gift is greater than our minds can conceive. Though we have the ability to think and speak there isn’t a language that can adequately express or explain God’s Gift of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus called Himself “the gift of God” in the form of “Living Water” to the woman of Samaria (John 4:10). Jesus Christ is the Gift of God that gives us salvation. It is a gift, we can’t earn it, buy it, nor do we deserve it (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Jesus Christ becoming the God/Man is an unspeakable truth. We cannot fully explain how God could become a man. Yet, the Bible says that He did in John 1:14, “And the Word (Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
“Thanks be unto God” because He is the Giver of the Gift. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God knew that the greatest need of the world was not for more wealth, or better schools, or a better government. Our greatest need is for a Savior. That is what makes God’s gift so special, this is the best gift ever known to mankind. Therefore, Christmas Day should be a day when we praise the Lord for His “unspeakable gift.” We may not receive material or financial blessings this season, but what we receive from God is beyond comparison. Jesus Christ is God’s Gift that keeps on giving.
- He gives help to the helpless.
- He gives hope to the hopeless.
- He gives health to the sick.
- He gives peace to the troubled.
- He gives strength to the weak and blessing to the meek.
- He gives comfort to those who mourn and joy to the sorrowful.
- He is food for the hungry, water for the thirsty, rest for the weary.
- He loves the unlovely, encourages the discouraged, and lifts up the fallen.
- He delivers those who are oppressed and comforts those who grieve.
So this year, let us offer God’s Gift of Jesus Christ to those who are lost. He is God’s unspeakable gift. Like any gift, God’s Gift only becomes yours when you take it. To receive His Gift, a person must admit to God that he/she is a sinner, unable to save themselves. He/she must believe that Jesus died, was buried and rose again to pay for all of their sins. If that person want God to change their sinful life, they must ask God to give them His Unspeakable Gift, “Jesus Christ.”
